What is the Role of Congress?
Congress has specific committees dedicated to the oversight responsibilities for the Small Business Administration. Both the Senate and the House of Representatives have Small Business committees with jurisdiction over the SBA 8(a) program.
- Senate Committee on Small Business & Entrepreneurship
- Committee Members
- House Committee on Small Business
- Committee Members
Additionally, because the Native 8(a) program is a federal contracting progam, other Congressional Committees focused on government contracting also have jurisdiction over the progam.
- Senate Committee on Homeland Security & Governmental Affairs
- Committee Members
- Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Contracting Oversight
- House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform
- Committee Members
- Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization, and Procurement
Finally, because the Native 8(a) program deals with Native Americans, Native Hawaiians and Alaska Natives and the Federal government’s trust responsibilities, the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs and House Natural Resources Committee and the House Subcommittee on Alaska Native Affairs also exercise jurisdiction over the Program.
Other Committees whose jurisdiction frequently overlaps with the key Committees listed above are:
- Senate Committee on Rules & Administration
- Senate Committee on Appropriations
- Senate Armed Service Committee
- House Armed Services Committee
- House Committee on Homeland Security
- House Committee on Appropriations
